Paddling near Quantico, VA

I'm going to have to spend about 6 weeks in Quantico Virginia during June/July this year. Any suggestions on where to paddle? Bring the creekboat or playboat, or both?

RE: Paddling near Quantico...

There is a gentleman named Bruce Usthus - he owns Valley Mill Kayak Camp - they run the Potomac --

Here is a link to their site! Stand up guy - the camp has been in his family for a long time!

Valley Mill Kayak School

Colin Kemp - who works for Jackson Kayak started out with these guys!

Sounds like a super cool place to visit!!

Have a great trip!

I think if you want whitewater you'll have to drive about 3 hours west to the Yough in (PA), North Branch of the Potomac (WV, whitewater release might be going on depending on when you are there?), the South Fork of the South Branch of the potomac (WV), or the North Fk of the So Br. of the potomac (WV) if you can catch the last two with enough water. All of these are medium to large volume rivers.

The South Fork of the Shenandoah maybe an option although not particularly scenic or really whitewater....or some of the little runs perhaps around Covington, VA but I don't know much about that other than the Jackson- and there are tresspass issues there (that is "king's grant" country)...
