All you really need to know is that it will be sweet water levels on the Ark and surrounding runs, movie premier parties, tons of free instruction (both dry land and on water), and as always, a sale. The paddling alone will be sick that weekend!
BUENA VISTA, CO Whitewater paddlesports leader Colorado Kayak Supply to host the largest educational paddling event of the year in the Arkansas Valley!
On May 19-21, paddlers of all ages and abilities will come together with paddling manufacturers, top pro kayakers and leading instructors and professionals for a weekend of boating education, entertainment and instruction. Colorado Kayak Supply in Buena Vista will be the Event Headquarters for the majority of the activities. CKS will also host a used gear swap and storewide sale to kickoff the Rocky Mountain paddling season.
RMOC, the premier whitewater paddling school in the Rocky Mountains, will be leading the instructional component for the weekend. Join Jay Kincaid, Clay Wright, Katie Selby, Jed Selby and Jimmy Blakeney-just to name a few-as they help you hone your skills on the river. Courses will consist of Paddle with the Pro Freestyle Clinics, Learn to Kayak workshops, Play Sessions for beginners to advanced paddlers, a Swiftwater Refresher, Creeking skills and more Contact RMOC directly to sign up for these courses. Dryland Workshops will be led by local, regional and national high profile athletes and leaders in the boating field. A sampling of the topics will include: How to prepare for your Sea Kayaking Adventure, How to Pack & Paddle for an Expedition, Building a Play Park in your Backyard, and a Videography & Photography Clinic. Friday and Saturday evening will also be filled with festivities. Enjoy and participate in the antics of some unprecedented kayak events, watch a few River Fliks in an open air venue on Friday night and at the Pearl theatre Saturday night, and enjoy the Beer tent & BBQ. Films will include Wet House, BC 921, Dynasty, and Cross Creek.
CKS will be open all weekend to serve as the event headquarters. CKS will also be hosting its spring kayak swap. Bring by your old gear-sell it in the swap and upgrade into some new gear. The five essentials (kayak, paddle, pfd, helmet and skirt) are welcome at the swap. Hours Friday and Saturday 9am-7pm, Sunday 9-5 pm.
