*sort of edit for Full disclosure: IDK these folks at all, and I havent donated anything either.yet.*
that type of response brings two words to mind. Empathy. and Excess. some of us have none of one, and lots of the other. some people got nothing period. I haven't donated anything either, and I got too much shit. I am no different. most of us prolly have extra gear. but nobody HAS to do anything.ever. thats what charity is- giving because you want to or because you feel empathetic.hopefully those folks will prolly get taken care of locally as far as the gear goes. Do you think they WANT your old polypro or whatever.... if they truly lost EVERYTHING... they dont have a chair to sit in, a bed to sleep in, an alarm clock to wake up with. and if theyre guides, theyre already poor, prolly, than those of us who couldnt afford to stay with that lifestyle fulltime.Hopefully they had insurance...
I dont like bullshit causes any more than anyone else , but why would boaters try and scam your old gear....
any way i am not trying to start shit with anyone... ignore it if you dont care. no need to try and de-legitimize them. I have seen houses, cars, motorcycles, peoples lives, go up in flames, and its pretty heavy. I have actually personally soaked the shit out of peoples stuff wetting the whole area down during structure fires. Its one of the most important things FF can do, (besides put the fire out) to try and salvage possessions and photos, cover anything thats not on fire with tarps to protect it, and move it outside. I cant imagine how devastated I would be to lose my house, AND toys...fuckin' ouch.
anyway I will STFU now. but this negativity makes me want to help somehow, actually help-since anyone can talk
Seriously....whether or not you do anything else- go look at their photos on FB- it helps connect the request to faces. theyre our type of people.river people. even if they are right coast-ers...:]
