(heh... that "orth" part in the tile isn't suposta be there!)
I've recently gotten into dirtbiking and I suck at it. A lot. As such, I wouldn't be surprised if i find myself jacked up and broken in the middle of nowhere utah at least once this year. A bunch of guys who ride trails around here cary these Spot things as a means to notify friends/family/911/search and rescue when something goes wrong when you're waaay out there.
The whole thing (unit + annual service) seemed kinda pricey to me, but they are on sale right now... Free unit with 1 year of service. I just ordered on and it cost me $169 (regularly $319).
What pushed me over the edge was when i read that they are waterproof and float! Don't know if this thing has ever been brought up before or not around here... I've never heard mention of them amongst the kayaking comunity, but thought I'd thow this info out there.
I'll definetely be carying this thing with me on remote river trips (or remote anything). I've never found myself in a situation where I really *needed* rescue/extrication (a few close calls though), but i figure it's fairly cheap insurance against such a perdicament.
Here's the link to the offer - i think today is the last day...
