Open House on Basalt WW Park

Pitkin County is holding an open house on the proposed whitewater park in Basalt on December 7th 5:30-7:00pm at the Basalt Library. Not sure what the agenda is, they will probably advertise this in local papers coming up. Its been getting some backlash from the fishing community. I enjoy fishing as well...when the paddling isn't good. Lets rally and cram the room with supportive boaters

I hope there's a good turnout. These days it seems especially important that the boating community represents.

Fishing and boating are not always aligned interests, so best of luck!

If anyone is interested in this it is important to know that the most important reason to support the WW park is establishing water rights to maintain minimum stream flows. Pitkin has applied for recreational water rights in this particular location (just ahead of the confluence with the Frying Pan) in order to prevent over diversions upstream. This aspect of the project is much more important and will have a much greater positive impact on fishing than any mild inconvenience that the water feature will have. With raising temps and falling flows upstream the upper Fork is at risk of serious impacts to the fishery. Plus we get a nice water feature for the yakers and the start of a revitalized river front park for Basalt. A great project for everyone and it should be supported

thanks for the informative post. I agree completely and should have stated this earlier, well put. Im sure all of this will be discussed at meeting, however support from the boating community obviously will only help our cause, and the river's cause in general
