We gotta do better next time......
Have been watching as much of the slalom coverage as I can find, on-demand, and on NBC/MSNBC during the day. Great looking course the Chinese threw down for. They will probably 'state-sponsor' several athletes to train for the next four years and put someone on the podium in one of the disciplines in 2012. Seems like we could spare a little more tax money to sport some more competitive slalom paddlers.
Cannot BELIEVE a guy from friggin TOGO took the Bronze in K-1, and we couldn't even get a guy in to the Finals?????? That's a sad statement on the state of true slalom in the US. Too bad, too, since it is such a great way to train for running harder stuff. Seems like we ought to be able to do better than a one-man team from TOGO. Makes us look pretty silly.
Just finished watching the women's K-1 this morning late, and it was pretty good. The Aussies took silver after the French gal got hammered in the course and missed 3 gates upside down. What did our gal do? 8th, and she is actually a British dual citizen. Once again, showing our lack of assets dedicated to competition whitewater.
So many rivers, so little time..........
