Ogden Canyon Downriver Race - Sep 24

As part of the Ogden City (Utah) Harvest Moon Celebration there will be a down river kayak race. It will be timed race down the narrows of the canyon (class IV). We have a release of 400 cfs, starting to ramp up on Friday the 23 and being prime on race day. The Harvest Moon festival is a really cool event. It has food, live music and all sorts of outdoor events. Friday Descente is showing a ski film, and Saturday night there will be a live band.
Some basic info can be found at

Does anyone have any beta on this run or the event? Is anybody going? I have a free ride up to Park City that weekend and would like to boat if it is any good. Is it worth the trouble?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Harvest Moon Festival and Race details

The Ogden is a great run, if a little short. The class IV is fun and very continuous but really only lasts for about a mile. The race will be short of 3 miles, encompassing a few more minor drops, from the heart of the narrows to the city park below. We'll have 400 cfs, which is low but not scrapey, if the flow was 600 or more I'd say pull out al the stops to make it. Imagine a race from just above Pine Creek to Scott's bridge at 400 cfs, the Ogden is in my opinion similar. The Harvest Moon festival is a sports festival that has had a bike race and some other events for a few years, but this is the first year a downriver race has been organized. The party on Historic 24th street will have a good turnout with live music, and ought to be as much fun as the race. I hope you and some other Colorado boaters make it out to represent, this recreational release is very unusual for Utah and we're trying to get a good turnout to set a precedent.
