Seems like a more than valid excuse to me! Mmm. Chose well you did, I think. Hmm.

Too bad about that highway/railroad thing on the NF. . .guess you can't have everything though.

BTW, the GS format is cool for a race like that. I imagine it makes someone with the run dialed have to think a little bit.

The sort of people who really enjoy creeking, are not the sort of people who enjoy waiting in line w/ 20 others at Oh Be to have their run timed. The weekend before and after the race will probably see more locals.

The sort of people who travel across the country to crowd the eddy and banks at Salida, and other rodeos for that matter, hungry for the fame and fortune that comes with good playboating, will probably continue to support such events.

Personally, I think it would be cool to watch an edited video of the race, but it is not worth wasting one of about 8 good creeking weekends that exist. I'd rather walk in and out of remote places with 100 lbs dragging behind me, ha ha.

Is there any video?

There were others, like mysef, who were in the area but opted to run the East and Daisy on Saturday and hold off on OBJ till the crowds cleared out on Sunday.

I think downriver races are super fun, but they are distant second to doing new runs with my friends. If the OBJ race had been in my backyard on a convenient day when other objectives weren't at a perfect flow I'd have been all over it.

I also get psyched about races when nothing else is going. Gore race always happens after everything else is dry and it is fun to show up and see all of Colorado partying at the takeout. I've been to a couple of races that coincide with a recreational release and they were well attended and super fun.

While I think the GS concept is pretty cool I think the future of kayaking will always lie in exploring difficult steep rivers in new locations. The future of kayaking will continue to be progressed by unpaid athletes pursuing audacious expeditions for their own satisfaction rather than fame and glory.

Why would anyone go some where to watch someone else Boat?
I guess if you are a non boater and have nothing else to do with your life.
A base ball game might be less of a hassle to get to

i don't think the idea was to watch other boaters. it was a competetion meaning you could compete so you wouldn't have to watch other boaters(sounds selfish by the way). what the deal, they are hooking colorado up with some sick contests and everybody is being gay?
