I just got an e-mail from my son in Brooklyn and he was lucky his area was not damaged but every where around him was completely devestated .
He said he needed a boat to get around . Just posted this to hope that all who have loved ones on East Coast are safe . The best organizations are many of the religious groups and salvation Army . I also look at the Red Cross as a good source . Please donate to help these folks . I was in the Joplin Mo storm and helped in rebuilding I know what devestation can do

Another good organization to support related to hurricane recovery is surfrider:
Surfrider Foundation

Pretty much the entire Jersey shore was devastated and will be rebuilt. Surfrider, much like AW, works for responsible development and access.

Here's what happened in NJ. These aren't resort towns, much of the area is pretty working class.

Not sure about how much rebuilding. Friends in Brielle, Sandy Hook, Seaside, BeachHaven and shore places like that are not real optimistic, given the money & bank situation. Course they're still def in shock. Some have lost everything

Also, Gov. Christie may not get all the assistance he's looking for. That said, they've come back strong before and there's some heavy metal shoreside. Please support any good causes there you come across. And be grateful we live where weather's pretty damn benign.

BTW, some great flatwater paddling and surfing in Jersey. It's fine country.
