Buzz pro boaters...should (when) the flow of the Colorado through Cataract reaches flows of 50,000 CFS or greater the NPS WILL have safety rigs and base camp set up per the NPS email below. If you are interested in helping with the safety effort read the stuff below...
FROM: BRUCE @ CANYONLANDS
An invitation has been made to commercial river guides who would like to
volunteer to help, and experienced private boaters will be considered as
well.
We will have National Park Service boats and rangers stationed below the
Big Drop rapids. Park staff will be stationed below the rapids from 9:00
AM to 5:00 PM each day. We will establish a camp at 10 cent rapid and a
temporary ranger station just below Big Drop #3 on the river right. Shifts
are tentatively scheduled to last seven days with days one and seven being
travel days. The National Park Service will provide transportation to and
from Cataract Canyon. The River Shop will provide all food and each
participant will be responsible for providing all of their own personal
gear. Volunteers will pay for their share of the food.
Each volunteer will be signed up as a “Volunteer In The Parks” (VIP) for
coverage under the government’s Workman’s Compensation Program.
If you are interested, please submit a letter of interest and a short
resume to Steve Young, Canyonlands National Park, 2282 S West Resource
Blvd, Moab UT 84532. The resume should include a summary of experience in Cataract Canyon or similar rivers, a list of comparable rivers you have
run, and training in first aid and swiftwater rescue. If you have any
questions, you can contact Steve Young at 435-719-2526.
Hope you have a great trip!
