new to the sport. want to get sick. any suggestions?

Hi I am brand new to the sport though, really in to it. I Am wondering how to get more involved in kayaking, and am always up for some advice and instruction. I live in the Denver metro area and can travel pretty openly.

Visit cool shops such as Confluence Kayak in Denver and ask questions.

Get some polypro under your drytop and paddle some more before ice out.

Buy, rent, borrow, steal videos. Eric Jackson is a master boater, but to be blunt, a poor teacher. Good for "holy cow" but not good for "Here is exactly how to do it." Ask for video and book suggestions at your local shop.

Get pummelled a few times and learn to appreciate your excellent combat roll which you have been working so diligently on.

Ask questions from everyone you see in a boat. Believe about 1/2 of what you hear.

Sorebutt is correct. I would add to get on the water any way you can. Go to the lake and learn a good solid paddle stroke(their are videos on this also), learn to paddle your boat straight. Hit the pool and roll till you puke. Buy warm gear and get out next spring or now.

Run westwater all winter and you'll be a new/better boater, ready to move from class 3 in the spring. We'll be there starting in Nov when there are no permits/rangers/people.

Pool time, get your roll wired. You will spend a certain amount of time upside down and or outta your boat swimming, best to do as much of it as you can in a nice warm pool while you learn.
