New short film: The headwaters of the Colorado

Hey everybody,

We paddled a pretty good chunk of the Colorado last summer, from Rocky Mountain National Park down to Diamond Creek on the Grand. We've been working on a film of the trip, and today just released the first installment of the film series:

We talked to quite a few people along the river and got some really great perspectives. As a boater it was especially eye-opening to sit down with Denver Water representative and hear their side of the story.

Hope you learn something and I'd love to hear some feedback. 5 minute web videos can't possibly capture all the nuances of the Colorado, but I hope this series will at least provoke some discussion.

Very slick production. Impressive. Unfortunately, the message only serves to tell us what has long been known. Front Range expansion comes with a hefty price, and solutions are in short supply.

I applaud the filmmakers for their efforts.

I was just getting warmed up to the video and it ended. I felt like video opened up a few different issues but never went into depth on them. I hope future episodes will dive deeper into some of the topics discussed. Can't wait to see more.

Thanks for the comments! This article written by Zak Podmore digs deeper into some of the issues discussed in the video: Why You Should Question Your Continental Divide — Down The Colorado

More to come on Tuesday when we release Episode 2...

Episode 2 of the series is online. "Profit and Play"

We had a lot of fun paddling through Gore and Barrel Springs, since they were really the most exciting rapids we had until West Water way downstream. We also heard from a lot of good folks about the value of recreation in conservation efforts.
