Need OEC class in the mountains

I was going to do volunteer ski patrol at Ski Cooper near Leadville. I need to take my OEC course, but the only classes I've found on nsp.org have been in West Kansas (Front Range-Denver, Co Springs, etc.) where there aren't even any mountains. I live in Eagle county, and haven't seen any OEC night/weekend courses like they have in Denver.

Anyone have any ideas? Can you do it all self study and "test out" for any of you patrollers out there? I have pretty good 1st Aid experience and good biology/anatomy background.

EMT and higher can challenge the OEC test. OEC has a lot of, shall we say unique ways, of doing things. It might be a bit challenging to pass the skills sections without some forwarning/practice. Feel free to contact me you would like further details.

I will check around and see if anyone is putting on a class up in your area.

Would recommend the EMT route, class is a little longer but course work is also a little more comprehensive, particularly if you are a boater.

As for OEC/EMT course, check out CMC. I know Breckenridge campus used to have the course.

On an aside, I'm an EMT/ski patroller. When I started patrolling I had to "Challenge" the OEC practical, but was no problem.

Cheers.

Thanks for the info. I think I just missed the starting day of the EMT basic course at CMC. Maybe I'll call and see if I can start it up now.
