Need Help Shipping a Kayak

I need to ship a playboat from Denver to Seattle. I need suggestions about the best and cheapest way to do this. I think I remember reading something about Forward Air. Thanks in advance.

Last time I did this I used FedEx Ground. Cost $35, and gets there in 3-5 days. It only works for playboats though...creekboats are too long and surpass their max. capacity dimensions. Also, they say that the boat must be in some kind of container. When this came up, I just said look, this here boat IS a container. Its just a big plastic box, so it is in a container. Go to any FeDex terminal to do this and they'll take it to any street address.

I heard forward air works but dont know the details. You can always call shops and see who they use....they ususually have this stuff dialed.

I used Forward Air, but you might also check out Pilot Air. Both have hubs in Denver and Seattle. They don't ship to a street address like FedEx, but if FedEx won't ship it, these guys will. They also require that it is packaged. I just wrapped the boat in a blue tarp and duct tape, and they accepted it it.

Forward Air

We can help you ship the boat with Forward Air. $50, we wrap it and ship it for you. All you need to do is drop it off with delivery instructions. Name, address, and phone, plus Forward Air Location.

spots express

Another alternative would be a Sports Express. They utilize Fed Ex as well but they do all the coordinating for you with door to door service. I paid $40 to have mine shipped to Cali (I hope it gets back tomorrow as planned).

As for packing, a good idea to help sell the "it is a container" idea is to seal up the cockpit area. I put my cockpit bag in there and then put a piece of cardboard over it w/ a good bit of tape to protect the soft materials of the bag.

I would have to say that Don's offer sounds pretty good too, especially if you're in the front range & want to support your local shops.
