Murtaugh Canyon of the Snake = ON
Another PSA from your friendly Idaho flow watcher. Idaho Power is releasing on the Murtaugh stretch of the Snake. Yesterday (4/13) the flow was ~7,500 and it is expected to rise to ~16,000 by the weekend. No definitive word on how the flows will change from there. Word from the Twin Falls locals is that 13,000 to 15,000 is a sick level for play. For the big dogs, there are some big juicy rapids upstream of the Murtaugh put in, including the infamous Milner Mile: "the biggest water in Idaho."
The run is big water pool-drop class IV with one easily portageable V. There is a bunch of catch on the fly surf and a couple good eddy accessible spots. It's kind of like a 13 mile long version of the Ottawa was transplanted into a basalt canyon in the middle of the Idaho desert. I highly recommend this classic run. Get some while the flows are up.
