Murtaugh Canyon of the Snake = ON

Another PSA from your friendly Idaho flow watcher. Idaho Power is releasing on the Murtaugh stretch of the Snake. Yesterday (4/13) the flow was ~7,500 and it is expected to rise to ~16,000 by the weekend. No definitive word on how the flows will change from there. Word from the Twin Falls locals is that 13,000 to 15,000 is a sick level for play. For the big dogs, there are some big juicy rapids upstream of the Murtaugh put in, including the infamous Milner Mile: "the biggest water in Idaho."

The run is big water pool-drop class IV with one easily portageable V. There is a bunch of catch on the fly surf and a couple good eddy accessible spots. It's kind of like a 13 mile long version of the Ottawa was transplanted into a basalt canyon in the middle of the Idaho desert. I highly recommend this classic run. Get some while the flows are up.

"A river is more than an amenity, it is a treasure."

Got on it @ 17 and 20. Ridiculouslly fun. Huge waves(taller than my house). Been described as Grand Canyonesque. Was bullshitting with a friend in a playboat, and watched him simply disapear. Sucked down by a minny whirlpool. Had folks traveling a long ways for those flows. Crossing my fingers! (its now over Bureau of Reclamation PN Region Hydromet Data

If it don't go big, probably hitting Cross this weekend.

I found some Cat guys that are looking at running it on Sunday the 19th that have been down it a few times. I am going to join up with them as the only kayaker so far... if anyone else is interested, shoot me a message. I haven't been down it yet and would also appriciate any advice at these flows. Is everything pretty scoutable?

Mostly read and run. Avoid the big holes. Avoid the Mega hole @ paradise(river right). Door 1 and 2(left side) suck at lets make a deal(consecutive river wide ledge hole). Hold on and try to stay in your boat. Swimming at upped flows is long and long and long etc.
