Muddy Creek

Thinking of doing a float down muddy creek in utah next weekend. Any locals know if this is a good time of year for this creek or if the peak has already occurred? The link to the gauge is below

I just checked the snow water equivalence in Utah and they are <20% of average. It looks like this next weekend may be possible but not probable and it might end up being more of a hike.

muddy creek is some of the best flatwater you could ever imagine. 100 cfs would be doable but long, make sure you have many mind alterants and you will have a great trip.

The Muddy can be highly diverted after the Emery gauge for irrigation. The better gauge is the one near Hanksville, but it is broken so your on your own. I have not heard of anyone floating it this season as of yet. I think its probably not running and possably not going to run given our conditions.

I ran it at 125 cfs last year and would consider everything except the "Chute" to be boney and at the very low end of low but doable.

I think a better time would be to forget the hard shells and the IKs and just take some tubes. Take a little pump and hike down to the Chute(3-4 miles from the put in), then inflate them and float from there. Its a great place whether hiking or floating and well worth doing regardless of the means of travel.

It will be super hot there and hiking/wading/floating will probably make it more fun anyway.

Check out Little Wild Horse, Bell, Chute, and Crack Slots for some othe fun stuff to do there. The camping at Tomscich (SP?) Butte-(Chute Put in) is nice with a lot of cottonwoods for shade, but has no bath rooms, bring some wag bags or a grover so not to trash the place.
