Lakewood is an option too. Your 10 minutes from the golden play park. there is also access to Deckers and some of the rivers near there. Ft. Collins is about an hour away. Good road access to I-70 and downtown. Good if your a skier. Stay away from Aurora though. It may have cheap housing but the access is poor and the crime is bad.

Check out Salida, One of the greatest spots in CO for just about everything except jobs (on the plus side housing is still relatively affordable). Great everyday paddling in town and a great community.

Jobs in most professional fields are limited here (Salida) as is the employee pool, meaning that it is worth digging a bit to see if you can find something suitable in your field--if you have been in the field for a while you probably wont have much intense competition for an opening.

Everyone else is probably right about the front range thing for job potential though.

If you are going to be living in that area and are interested in renewable energy, new urbanism and bike-pedestrian friendly community check out -its in Longmont and looks like a very cool project.
