Moving from Roanoke,VA to Boulder,CO

In the fall I will be moving from Roanoke,Va to attend CU Boulder. With this I'm leaving behind the southeastern kayaking that I love. My favorite runs are the Green River Narrows and the Gauley. I was just wondering if anyone knew if there was a kayaking group at CU Boulder? Also what is the boating season like? From what I understand its just snow melt and things run from May-October. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Yeah buddy I suggest getting a job and saving money for plane tickets or something...winters can be brutal mentally.. Def some good boating in the summer just stay on top of where the crowd is headed next.

Buy that whitewater of the southern Rockies by those sandbaggers stafford and mcCutchen

There a bunch of boaters in the Boulder and Denver area. If you're running the Green, you'll find some of the Boulder Creek and South Boulder Creek stuff a lot of fun. The St Vrain and Big Thompson aren't too far away either. As far as winter goes, learn to ski or snowboard.

people in Boulder don't actually boat.

they just smoke weed and smell bad.

CU has a kayak club but their amount of activity oscillates over time and I think they may be in a trough right now as I never see them out and about. Regardless, you should probably join and take advantage of free gear, gas, vans, and such.

Your information is more or less correct, but in reality the bulk of the runoff really only occurs for about a month, usually in June. During the month there are lots of great runs near Boulder, almost every creek/river that comes down off the Front Range has some good stuff, but it's over quickly. There are a few dam controlled runs within semi-reasonable driving distance that can last into Oct or even early Nov.
