I'd also recommend the book "River Otter Handbook for Trip Planning", by Maria Eschen. It's a bit over the top in super-organizing (in my opinion), but I got it when we did our first river trip (single boat) and it helped morph our backpacking/car camping skills onto the organization necessary on a boat with no restocking available. Overall just a great book on how to do river trips. Augment with the lists on the RRFW site someone else mentioned, and you've got a good start. I think it'd be fun reading right now as you fantasize about your trip, and help you assess what kind of help and people you really need.
I am a river, babe - I've got plenty of time, I don't know where I'm going, I'm just following the lines..... - "We are water" by Shaye
