The Dolores could be going. If it is there are 1 to 6 day trips that are really nice.

The upper and lower piedra can be nice that time of year.

i don't get your question. getting to be primo season at that time. tough to permit unless it's mid week.

pumphouse to dotsero on the colorado has many options. loma to moab too.

gunny gorge though lots of logistics. dominguez canyon on the gunnison

browns canyon on the ark has some spots to camp.

green river below the flaming gorge dam.

northgate canyon maybe though will need to do some miles to get out to a non snowed in take out.

anyway, crack a guidebook and follow the gauges.

Gates of Lodore - This is supposed to be a fantastice overnight... and I believe May is Prime season.

the Jarbidge/Bruneau Rivers in Southwest Idaho are very flow dependent, but I believe mid May is generally runoff season. Unbelievable trip.

guess i though mid may might be a little early for prime season...

I ran Gates of Lodore last fall, amazing trip. and I've run westwater a few times in late summer. but never may.

Is the water really cold in may for westwater? my favorite thing about westwater is the swimming and cliff jumping.

little yampa canyon

I've done the yampa between craig and juniper canyon on memorial day. no rapids to speak of, but quite pretty. I was told by the BLM that in juniper canyon a pretty big hole can develop at the maybell diversion dam at high flows (+8k) there's a couple of takeouts, and you have to watch BLM/private property but it was well marked when I did it 2 years ago. BLM craig office i think has some decent maps online

The Dolores is always a great time, but IF there is water this year it might not be that early.
I never plan on water in the Dolores, I have some friends coming into town around memorial day for some fun. We are hoping for the Dolores, but are perhaps going to be on the pumphouse and on the Loma - westwater run.
YOU can run the Dolores from Bradfield Launch site to above Moab, you only need a permit for the Gateway-Colorado river section. Count on the farmers taking every drop they can before they think of letting a drop squeek out of the Dam on Westwater.
The Upper Green, Desolaton ad Grays Canyons, is also a fabulous trip I have heard and is on a call-in permitting system. You should call now! The days will be long and the watrer high so you will almost certainly be able to do the trip in 5 days if you need to. Beware of bears!
