Never seen any mosquitos on the Main Salmon in 10 years of running it. Yellow Jackets yes.....but no mosquitos.
I would highly suggest that you get the Main Salmon guide by Eric Newell, Black Canyon Guides. He just barely published a 2nd edition. Very comprehensive guide with tons of info on rapids, camps, hikes, etc.
The Main Salmon is my all time favorite trip. We launch in a few weeks. I think this will be #15 for me. I would guess your flow will be around 3 feet. Flows between 2-3 feet usually means that the holes & hydraulics are coming into play, so stay alert. Chittam, Bailey, Elkhorn, Big Mallard, and Vinegar will probably be your biggest challenges. The new Black Canyon rapid looks pretty big. Remember to run left on Big Mallard. The beaches should be prime in August. Remember to bring a tarp for shade, as it's pretty darn hot in August. You'll have a blast.
PM me for specific info.
