Come on up to Lyons on June 12th for the 3rd annual Lyons Whitewater Fest. Several competitions will be held throughout the day with classes from Beginner to Pro to K-9! If you aren't looking to compete then we got a beer garden featuring Dale Pale Ale to keep you happy.
Major sponsors currently include the Town of Lyons, Lyons Chamber of Commerce, Kelty and Oskar Blues/Dales Pale Ale. The events will be held at the Black Bear Hole, which is one of the premier freestyle locations in Colorado. The Black Bear Hole is on the east side of Lyons across from the Black Bear Restaurant.
The Lyons Whitewater Festival is a Colorado Cup whitewater rodeo series event (freestyle), which draws competitors from across the nation and crowns an overall winner of the leading whitewater festivals in the state. In addition to the rodeo, events include 3+ mile DownRiver Race, Hole P-I-G Competition (freestyle), BoaterCross Relay and a Good Dog Competition (dogs only, no kayaks).
Hole P-I-G is basically like the basketball game P-I-G, but instead of making a shot, paddlers must duplicate a series of tricks. The BoaterCross Relay Race is a hybrid of Boarder X from the X-Games and pits teams against one another in a fierce relay of one to four competitors who paddle the whitewater course, run back to the put-in through an obstacle course, and paddle the course again. The first team to complete 4 full laps is the winner.
The Good Dog Competition involves the smartest river dogs on the planet fetching a stick in the river and other river dog skills. Merchandise will be awarded to the winners of all events. The entry fee includes all whitewater events and is $25 with a T-shirt, $20 without. The entry fee for the Good Dog Competition is $10 with a T-shirt. For more information see

Food, beer and local festivities will be available on site. Camping is available on the infield of the whitewater course in Meadow Park.
