Lowest Yampa Canyon Descent

I have been down it at 800 cfs with a 16 ft raft. It is 400 cfs now. I am hoping to take some kids self support down the canyon in September. How low can you go? Opinions please.

I've taken an 18' raft through at ~650. At that level Warm Springs was a boat-wide slot with a pour-over in the middle of it, much lower and it would become a short portage for a gear boat or a low-side move for a paddle boat. Everything else was surprisingly floatable. In rafts I would just look to pack light and be ready to drag a bit, but as long as there is at least some water you'll be okay. It's not like that trip is for the rapids anyway... is offline   Reply With Quote

agreed. Wow 18' at 650. So in a kayak you could pretty easily get down at 400. Does anyone know when the irrigation calls usually shut down for the upper yampa?
