Lower Taos Box - Memerial Day Weekend

The LTB gauge says 552 today and it has been dropping steady the last few days. Not sure if this due to cooler weather down there or no more snow?

We are wanting to day trip it in canoes next Saturday. In reading seveal guide books, it looks like 400 is the cut off? If it stays at 400 or above, is it worth it?

It also looks like there are no real big weather events in the forecast this coming week. Any chance that this could go up for Memorial day weekend, dam releases?

If anyone in the know, can tell me if there will there be enough water for this weekend or if this is done, it would be much appreciated?

I think you are looking at the Upper Box gage. The Lower Box is crankin at 1710 cfs according to the AW page I just checked.

I've done it as low at 650 and do not recommend it below that.

AW guage is wrong

The AW gauge is wrong. They calculate the lower box flows using the gauge at Taos junction bridge. The only problem is that the Rio Pueblo feeds into the Rio Grande right above the guage. So today the Gauge is reading about 1150cfs, subtract the 400 or so cfs that the Pueblo is kicking in and the box will be about 700-800cfs. Not sure where M got the 1700cfs from. I find it best to look at the upper box flows, add in the Red River flows and that will be your lower box flows. The only way the Lower Box will get bigger this weekend is if some more flows come across the border. Hope for some super hot days. 800cfs would be low but you could still have a fun day if it was warm. Atom..
