Lower South Fork Rio Grande

Not a bad little run especially if you put in just above the Columbine Rest Stop at the take-out for V section. You can start off with some IV bang before it goes scenic III-. Half way down the right braid bypasses the obvious river wide log left. As the New testament mentions the Fun Valley RV park is a great take-out 4.5 miles away. Just talk to Keith at the entrance and he will most likely oblige your request for a take-out. With no campers there I parked at north end by final ledge drop. With campers he said preferable pull out would be the sandy beach on south side. He is cool and plays a mean mandolin. What the good book didn't mention (probably because it references FR380 bridge 1.7 miles up river), is a fun and sporty III rapid in between. It sort of sneaks up subtle which is why 'Surprise' or 'Quick Shot' seems appropriate. Is there a name already for it?

Pics are IV put-in and final V section above.

You paddled the manmade ledge below the Park Creek bridge? It's looked nasty to me.

If you continue past Fun Valley, you get to what I think is the most scenic stretch. You drop into an inner canyon and lose the road plus RV's. It's continuous II. There has been a single strand of barbed wire before the Beaver Creek bridge at times.

The one I popped over is just below the old wood bridge and north side by site 121. It's really quite small if it is the same one you are thinking of. How about that 'ski-jump' type rapid upstream Bruce? What a blast.
