Lake Fork Gunnison : Access and Wood Update?
Planning a camping trip in Lake City area. Would like to float fish the lake fork. We have never been to the area. Have found a bunch of conflicting information on current land owner status and wood. We will be down there the weekend of June 26th, and hoping flows will be down for some good float fishing. Very interested in the Box and also the Gate to Red bridge section. The BLM site is helpful and pro-boater (but circa 2006). I remember talking to the past ranger (BLM ranger & pro-boater) years back, but apparently he has retired. I spoke with the current ranger and got the "that is private property, you can't boat there". So, unfortunately pretty clueless and not following the past rangers stance.
1. Box Section: Any updated on wood and low bridges, or hazards. This seciton is a little longer than I would like for float fishing, but still might hit it if Gate to Red bridge is out.
2. Gate to Red bridge: Any man made hazards (Wires or Fences) and wood report? Also would like to know the temperment of current land owners. Due to length and stream, this would be our prefered float.
We will be in a 12 ft raft outfitted for both front and rear fishing. so, pretty easy to manuever and portage.
Thanks in advance.
