Thanks for the input. I haven't talked to him in a couple of years. I used to live in Marquette, MI (where Viosport was based) and they're a larger company in the relatively small, MW town. Since Marquette is kind of a hub for MTB freeriding and also freestyle skiing in the upper MW Viosport has an obvious reputation and many athletes sport one of their setups. I only know the owner casually, through acquaintances, and Tuesday night beer league races.
I am no expert on cameras, especially in water related situations, but the Viosport vids I've seen have impressive resolution to some of the others on the market. And I also like how sleek they are on the helmet by keeping the camera either in a backpack or, in kayaking, inside the boat. I didn't realize they were so crappy and obsolete, and, of course, I didn't realize their customer service dept. was so poor. To be honest, though, that doesn't surprise me. There's a vibe surrounding the extreme type of athletes in Marquette that is super elitist. I'll grant that for the Upper MW some of the kids can really rip on skis or a bike, and they can hold their own against the upper tier of skiers and bikers in the country, but kids like that are a dime a dozen in the Rockies or Sierras and I don't think they realize that.
I'll let the Vio crew know their reputation outside the Upper MW isn't so hot...
