Kayaking in Norway

We're heading to Norway next month and would love to hit the rivers out there (Class III or IV). Does anyone have advice on where to go, guides or shops to contact for more information, etc.? We're staying down south, so it would be great if there was something around Kristiansand so we don't have to figure out traveling too far. Thanks! Susie

Norway is gorgeous. It has the two main ingredients you need for white water: lots of rain and big mountains. But, a big problem is that there are so few people there that there are few good roads and getting information may be sketchy. I think the most action will be a few hours north of Oslo and closer to Bergen, so you are a little out of the way in Kristiansand. There is a big river nearby, so you may be in luck.

The ocean towns just west of Kristiansand are spectacular. Checking them out may be higher priority than finding white water. Sea kayaking may be something to try.

Here are two good links for white water:

Enjoy!
Who would have thought you'd get Norway info on the buzz?

The area around Voss has a ton of boating and shops to help you out, but that's up inland from Bergen. Contact Einar at skiogelv@online.no if you're gonna make it that far north. I don't know much about the south, but it's a spectacular country--you can't go wrong!

Maybe this will help...
