Kayakers: Shoshone still accessible
As some of know the Shoshone exit on I-70 will close April 16th. This does not mean that you kayakers should stay away. If you want to paddle Shoshone you should put on at hanging lakes and walk anything you don't want to run.
The hike from the parking lot past Upper and Lower Death is short. The eddy above Barrel Springs rapid is easy to see and catch. And the bottom rapid is easy to hike or sneak on the left. The extra paddling only takes a few mintues and the portage distances are short. I am guessing this would only add 45 minutes to a Shoshone run.
I know this seems obvious. I just throw it out there for those few that might not have thought about it. It would be a shame to have people not paddle Shoshone because of the CDOT closure.
There are a couple of us who will start to get out there daily so if you want to go just shoot a message.
