Kayak Roll Contest

I've got a roll that I have never seen done in a whitewater boat... rolling with paddle held under the hull... Do you know anyone who can do this roll? I first saw it demonstrated in the 1950 filmclip.

If you can do the roll, win a DVD of either Performance Sea Kayaking or Whitewater Self Defense. See complete details (and the 1950 clip) at:
Kayak Roll Contest | Performance Video

This roll and some other pretty remarkable footage is in "The Call of the River", whitewater paddling historical documentary. See the trailer at: The Call of the River | Performance Video

I gave it a try today. Better have a long paddle and skinny boat. I tried it in a 4fun and 197cm paddle. I couldn't even get the paddle in the water once I was upsidedown.

Saw a couple of kids on Shoshone a few years ago set an open can of soda on the bottom of their upside down kayaks and hand roll while reaching around with their other hand and retrieving the can keeping it upright and unspilled as they did.

Might be harder with beer...

That is an awfully thin, long kayak. I think the shape makes that much easier. Perhaps the first model of the Jackson Hero had that shape.
