Kayak Registration/Fees in Idaho

Hey all,
Just came accross this message from our bros from It sounds like Governor Otter wants to require kayakers to register their boats and pay fees. Here's the message:

Now is the time to act. Get on the phone and let your voice be heard regarding registering kayaks in Idaho. ONE small phone call.
The Governor's office is taking a poll in response to today's Statesman Article on Non-motorized boat registration. It's super easy. The ask a few simple questions: are you an Idaho resident, your name. The closed meeting is tomorrow 11/30.

Just noticed that the closed meeting date is 11/30. I just got this email, so I assume that Idaho is still in the decision process. Please send this message via email to everyone that you know, so that we can bombard the governor's office with phone calls. I've already told them what I think, and they said that they would count my vote as of 12/14.

Damn Politicians!

I used to live in Missoula and spend much of my summer boating Idaho rivers.
It is rather intrusive that a Governor is going to require us to pay tax on our boats in order to be on the river.
Is this a joke? Where does it end?
We need to do all we can to fight this proposal!!!
Make the call

They tried to pull this shit in NH. WW community and other momentum stopped it. Folks were ready to simply forget about the state (which does have whitewater btw).

Ultimately money influx by tourists can exceed the amount made by registrations. Piss folks off they might just go to WA, MT, CA, CO, AZ, etc. in stead. This stuff also hit places like summer camps and other organizations hard.

Perhaps we should register booties too. Get real. I can't even figure out why we have registration for cars.

Boat registration

These folks do some good work with rivers in Idaho. I don't know if they want to take on this issue but you could drop them a line and some $$
