For long trips (ex: Alaska) I use thule bars but I put the cockpit down towards the ground. No stacker. For the straps, as opposed to having one strap go over the boat twice, I run it over once, and have the other go underneath to a grab loop. Vectors- one line of the strap is over the hull pulling down towards the vehicle, and the other is pulling the boat forward (if it's the rear strap) or back (if it's the front strap). Obviously, strap tightness has to be coordinated to keep the boat in position. So, slightly more of a pain to set up, though more aerodynamic and far less boat abusive. The bars grind away on the deck, vs oil canning the hull.
