To kick off the new academic year students from New River Academy, a high school for kayakers, watched and participated in a kayaking competition on the Ottawa River in Canada.
Students did their part to help the competition run smoothly by hauling tents, chairs, food, drink, extension cords, fuel and a generator over a rocky, sometimes treacherous trail. This year's event was the largest yet, "It was also the easiest because we had so many hands to pull all the gear out", said Matt "Sharky" Mc Guire, event coordinator.
