It's not a worthless observation... It's an honest one. Since when did anyone buy a boat b/c it's indestructible? I've never met someone that said.. "Man, my boat isn't my favorite design but it's damn strong so I paddle it!"
Boats break sometimes under the shittiest hits. But, you have to think about what weakened it in the first place. If it's a manufacturing problem it'll get fixed.. If you're like the guy on Boatertalk (who wants a warranty claim after his boat went down a few rapids on the Green without him) then it's your fault it broke.
About the only boat that people should stay away from are the Big Gun and the purple Jackson boats (I think). Other than that, just paddle the design that you feel most comfortable in and try and be smooth.
