Jasper to Springfield 10000 cfs today on the Willemette
I was worried the flow was too high on the Middle Fork of the Willamatte river today. I was surprised how easy it was. I have never done that section above 6000cfs. It was even sunny and warm. It was neat to see how different it was with so much water.
I tried something new, I made a pee tube to wear inside my wet suit so I didn't have to take it off to empty my bladder. It worked great. I used an old camelbak tube connected to a small plastic bottle like a funnel. I ran the tube down my leg. Beats gettin all undressed or getting diaper rash.
I stopped at the nudie beach on Glass Bar Island for a break. I put up my tarp, lit my hobo stove and made nachos. The whole float only took 3 hrs with my "camp" break. I managed to not get splashed or any water in my boat. I call that a clean run.
I saw one boat, it had a motor. A big chunk of wood like a bulls head floated down with me. The current was very powerful but it was fun. Now I know what that section is like at high water, I know I'll be able to float it safely all winter.
