Jackson Kayak.. update for 2004!!!

Well, I figured that I would drop in with an update about Jackson Kayak… There are some really cool things going on that I thought you all would find interesting about the boat design as well as some updates on people who have joined the team.

Jackson Kayak is a family company. EJ is at the helm with his wife Kristine in charge of sales, and him. Kristine’s mom is the office manager, while both of their kids are team members, product testers, and heirs to the business. Clay Wright is their neighbor and friend that will be helping EJ with his new creekboat due out this coming fall. The prices for a Jackson Kayak are below the industry norm. This is because he really wants everybody to have access to the new boats, and since his business is set up like a mom and pop shop instead of a corporate giant, his overhead is less.

The boats that will open the doors for Jackson Kayak are the Fun series, which are the river running play boats. The first one is called the Fun 1. A boat for 40-80 pounders. This should be great news for all of you boaters that have kids and would love to have a boat that is specifically fit for them. EJ’s kids use the Fun-1 and 2-Fun. If you want to see a picture of the Fun click here: They are designed to get you down the river easily and play anywhere, anyhow. There will also be the Fun, 4 Fun and Super Fun. To give you a size idea… the “Fun” is fit for EJ’s size.5.6 155 lbs and then the “4 Fun” being larger still. There are plans to fill the product line out over the next season, but the 1st round of boats are awesome. There are three categories of boats you will see in 2004. River Running play boats (The Fun Series), a freestyle boat (All Star), and a creeker (To be named at sometime soon). We will add one more category next year, the river running/creeker.

Here’s the kicker about the boats… EJ’s whole theme is “LIGHT, COMFORTABLE, DURABLE AND DRY!!!” To put the weight differences in perspective consider the differences in the Fun (28lbs) and the T3 (35Lbs) and the G-Ride 6.2 (33Lbs). And what I think is most excellent is the dry factor… There will be no interruptions to the hull in regards to bolts and whatnot. So…that means no more leaky holes in the sides of the boat. EJ has also designed a cockpit that is shaped in a way that really focuses on “NO LEAKAGE”. I think you will all be very impressed…

There will be some innovations that are unique and worthy of discussion, and copying. Eric won’t patent anything, because he would rather be copied than worry about the competition. The vision is to make the best boats (light, comfortable, durable and dry), for the best price, and bring kayaking to the whole family. Ultimately I think you are going to see a company that designs great boats for all stages of kayaking. From young kids to old kids and for the steepest creeks to the fastest waves.

The Fun series is here to stay. If you ask EJ… it’s the best all around design he’s seen yet. Check out Dane paddling it at . Go to photo gallery for real photos.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them and I will get back to you asap...

With all this snow, we should be setting up for a kick ass 2004 season!!!

We will be getting demos as soon as they are available.
First boat (fun1) should be coming out in early march.
Check for the release dates for each model.

I'm stuck down in Atlanta until about April, which I've come to find out is a good thing if you are a boater or like BBQ. I wouldn't mind demoing one while I'm here if you could get me some contact info. Much appreciated.

As mentioned above from one of our dealers here in Colorado, Alpine Kayak, the demo's will be available in mid-march for the Fun1 and the Fun (the other sizes will all be out by mid April). I will be sure to get you an email once they are available and get one to you to demo.

Our dealers are all going to carry a demo of each kayak (which will be at minimum 4 different sizes). The dealers will also be in control of developing their own pro kayakers. Jackson Kayaks will defer all pro-deal inquiries to their local dealers.

If you have more questions... please feel free to post them here, or email me at

Hey Tom...

It's been a long time! Haven't seen you since that day on Gore with Adam. I hope you got that picture I sent you of that kick ass boof on Tunnel...

Well, in regards to your questions... The creeker won't be out till later and we don't have a picture of the prototype to put out. Clay Wright is doing the creek boat and once we have a complete design you can bet we will have it on our website. We are really fired up about the retail shops that we have on board:

4 Corners in Durango
Alpine Kayaks in Vail
Backdoor Sports in Seamboat
CKS in Silverthorne and Nathrop
Confluence Kayaks in Denver
RMOC in Howard

As you noticed, we don't have a retail partner on the western slope as of yet. We are working on it, but I will let you know as soon as we do.

Give me a call when you get a chance...

Well Syore,

Funny you should mention... I am currently looking into retail partners in NM as I am writing this.

Where are you in NM?
