International travel with kayak

I am wondering if anyone has any beta on traveling to Mexico, via airplane, with kayak. I have flow with my kayak, calling it a "surfboard," before the 9/11 airline smackdown, but am doubting if the airlines will let it on these days. Has anybody out there sent their boat, for a reasonable charge, with a freight forwarding company? Any company names that do this kind of thing would be useful. Advice from anybody who has recently traveled with their boat would be much appreciated.

if you buy a boat bag it will be mch easier to pass off as a surf board. I know that NRS and Wavesport sells them but I'm not sure what size and kind of boat your flying with.

international boat travel

Remember: its a "surf boat" not a "surf board"

Refer to the kayak only as a "surf boat" and no issues should arise with any of the major carriers (except for United who sucks).
United will give you the run around in a different manner at almost every airport
Continental has been slightly more accepting than United.
Stick to Delta Airlines, they are the most boater friendly and usually charge $50 or nothing depending on who is processing you.
