Just watched the video. ..didn't realize it was a recirculating ww course. I used to work on the one in mchenry md. the one in Charlotte looks a lot like this model for okc.
Those pumps will cost some real serious money to run. I hope they can drum up enough rafting revenue to make the place work.
The ww center in Charlotte has done a good job of making the place in a sort of adventure amusement park with lots of attractions and you can even buy a one price pass and do everything they offer at your leisure. At night they have a nice restaurant along the "river" and flow a little water through it to set the mood.
I one in Maryland was not thought through as well. While the course is much better imo than Charlotte, it was designed with slalom boating and rafting in mind. Which is great but rafting alone doesn't bring in the revenue to justify operating costs and slalom races cost lots of money and bring very little interest for the general public. The md course went bankrupt last year and was taken over buy the county government...which proceeded to piss test all their guides who then quit to go back to the real river. But they do have the2014 slalom world championship coming up. I hope its a success for them.
