Ice Breaker Rodeo & Boat Demo

Pueblo Paddlers
Ice Breaker Rodeo
Saturday April 22nd
Pueblo Whitewater Park
Pueblo, Colorado

The Pueblo Paddlers kayak club is proud to announce the first annual "Ice Breaker Rodeo" to be held in the Pueblo Whitewater Park on the Arkansas River in Pueblo. This event will coincide with the first of four scheduled releases of between 600-100 cfs through the park.

There will be five classes. pro men, pro women, intermediate men, intermediate women, and a combined novice class. Entry is $10 per run in a jackpot format. Registration begins at 9am and competition begins at 10am in one of six holes in the park. Exact play hole will be determined on the event day by the judges.

Come and get on the river in Pueblo. Come compete, check out new boats ( The Edge Ski, Paddle & Pack will have demos), or just play in the holes not being used for competition. There will be water, food and fun and this laid back early-season event!

Good question...I forgot to mention that the water is scheduled to start sometime late on Friday April 21 and continue through Sunday April 23rd. So you can compete on Saturday and play on Sunday. (There should be plenty of room to play on Saturday if you don't want to throw-down for the cash.

Things are looking even better now for the Ice Breaker here in Pueblo. Mike Harvey was in town and along with help from Pueblo City planner, Scott Hobson, were able to make repairs to the number eight hole. This in turn effectively stopped the recirculation of number 7. The water is starting to come up (right now a little more than 200 cfs) and may increase significantly by the end of the week. (Keep your fingers crossed that there is a call for water down stream.) I will keep my eye on the flows (USGS website to view the Moffat Street gauge) and the waves (the park is about 5 blocks from home) and keep you up to date as we count down to April 22nd. And for those of you who aren't interested in competing on Saturday, we will still have between 600-1000 cfs on Sunday April 23rd so come hang out and get wet in Pueblo!
