Creek Recovery Efforts Underway in Golden
Golden, Colo. – June 12, 2013 – Golden Dispatch received a call from a motorist on Hwy 6 at 6:16 a.m. to report a car in Clear Creek. Golden Fire responded and the witness said she saw a car go into the creek, but couldn’t find it. After searching along the creek, fire crews spotted the car ¼ of a mile from where it went in, at about mile marker 268, which is between Tunnels 1 and 2.
The car is currently submerged in high, swift water and there appears to be at least one victim in the car. It is clear that the efforts will be recovery and not rescue. As a result, Golden Fire and West Metro Fire Rescue plant to work on recovering the car from the creek starting at about 1 p.m. today, once the water levels have gone down and it’s safer for rescue crews to get in the creek.
Hwy 6 up Clear Creek Canyon is currently closed and will remain closed until the recovery can be made.
Colorado State Patrol will be in charge of the investigation.
