Encampment river, looking for someone that has rafted it. All you kayakers out there, have you ever laid your eyes on a raft runnin' the Encampment?
Would love to hear from you. Thanks.

hey. not sure if this is the same hunter that is friends with ben and andrea? not even sure why i opened this since your title of the post was your name? this is ken...x-roommate of andreas.

anyway...after reading your post i thought i'd respond. i'm actually interested in running the encampment weekend after the 4th. a friend and i are interested in doing an overnighter and fishing it. not sure if spending a night is something your interested in...but it's nice to hook up for a shuttle.

i've never heard of anyone rafting it. we are planning to take a shredder down it though...part raft, part kayak. but there is a first time for everything.

Yep, rafted it with Bryce Hayes (R2) a few years back...

some info for you:

-best if it is at least 2.6 on the Lazy Acres gauge (we ran it at 2.9)...
-COLD H2O...
-multiple class IV's, Damnation Alley is IV+(long) and comes about an hour or so after the put in bridge...scout on right...
-Excellent camps (we camped right after D.A. on the right)...
-plenty of firewood on river...
-Class II below the big camp on river right...
-Bring bug spray...
-check Byers Canyon on the way home...
-the big stuff comes on fast and keeps on comin'...but it all goes...
-let me know when you are going...

-j

J,

How about small Catarafts (no floor, 9' oars, loves IV+/V-)
Is it too tight? Ok putin/takeout?

Thanks for any info.

Would probably get more posts, it title was Encampment!

It's definitely been rafted- and I don't think my friend Dave Russell was the first. But he ran it in a hard plastic cat in around 92-93. I'll see if he can fill in some details. He was the only raft running with several kayakers.

great raft run that's on par w/ bailey, and LSB. we took a shredder and loved it. a very small oar frame should work.

encampment

I did it in a maravia spider with an oar frame and 8ft. oars. We also had two crews in mini-me's run it. I'm interested to hear how the 9fter's work. Other locals have sent rafts down it with success but not many oar frames.
It's dropping pretty fast so anyone serious about coming up and floating better do it quick.

Let me know if you need help with shuttles.

Encampment river --Rafting

Sorry folks I blew it on the title of the post.
Couldn't figure out how to get back to it and
edit it.
thanks for the Info. If the river holds up we may
make a das for it on the weekend of 7-19. We will
Be runnin' with 12' cats, and have good experience on
creeks, I guess we need to test that on the Encampment.
