How to post pics for gear swap?

my freind emailed me pictures of a boat im posting and I put them im my pictures folder and then just did the whole browse folders thing and found the picture without a problem, but the actual picture wont show up, just the gif (or whatever) symbol? Can anyone tell me what im doing wrong?
