Yes, I'm serious. And yes I will Sharpie the boat. And I will use and engraving pen on the frame but since it's currently rolled in my garage the dog tag is simply one more way to tag the boat. Not saying that I'm only going to use that. Just one of many ways. No harm is using a variety of media to get the point across that the boat is mine is there?

FYI, here is the Colorado law on marking vessels that do not need to be registered. I don't write this ticket often, I just carry a sharpie.

CRS 33-13-103. Numbering of vessels required.

(5) It is unlawful for any person to operate or use a canoe, kayak, sailboard or nonmotorized raft which is not required to be registered under subsection (1) of this section on the waters of this state unless it has been marked with the owners name and current address in a legible, clearly visible and durable fashion. Any person who violates this subsection (5) is guilty of a petty offense and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine of fifteen dollars.
