Honduras Beta

So I am headed down to Honduras for a week to hang with the girlfriend's family and I managed to convince them that they need to go rafting so I can kayak one day. I have been down there before but never got the opportunity to paddle. We are most likely headed to the Cangrejal and I contacted Omega Tours as they are the only outfit I know of. Just wondering if anyone can offer up any beta on Omega, any other outfit, and the Cangrejal in general .

we did the cangrejal last year, and it was pretty low. At the level we saw it was ok, but it has some decent gradient and i could see it being a blast with some water. I can't speak to the outfitters but as long as its been raining you'll have fun.

I worked there years ago, but it was too long ago to be of help. You might also try posting on Boater Talk. A friend, who has worked there recently, reads Boater Talk frequently. He might be able to help you out.

besides Omega, there is Rio Honduras[ associated with RMOC & Nahtahala OC
] and La Mosquitia Adventure Tours run by Jorge Salvieri for like 15/20 years great guy, both have kayaks and rafting,Jorge's probably cheaper and more flexible and is a local company. As a last resort there is a guy Oscar Perez that has been in biz a while but has a shady rep.All are in La Ceiba.A good day trip out of La Ceiba is Sambo Creek, a small Garifuna fishing village with ok beach and an awesome seafood resteraunt,it is apx 20 miles east.Sambo Creek is a 5- ,walk up from where the road crosses, too tiny for rafts. It is the beginning of dry season though.
