High Water Stoke!

Well, its official... 2011 rules! Colorado high water has been awesome this year. The backyard runs have been stomping fun. Got in some new runs that were action packed high water. Love it!

I love the feeling of peeling out and having your boat whipped downstream on the high speed flow. Paddling your local run, you struggle to find rocks still uncovered, and the rapids are changing and taking on a big water feel. You get into the big water zone after running miles and miles of full creek bed with crashing laterals and big breaking waves thumping you in the chest and blasting you in the face with a huge whiteout.

I think the season played out really well to. Things stayed high for weeks instead of going nuclear after a big heat wave. I've read multiple comments from low water lovers wishing the flows would come back down... have patience my friends... the rocks will be back all too soon, and the rare treat of having full river beds will be a fond memory.

Loving the high water!

P.S. Another thing I have noticed is that many boaters seem to stick close to home when the water is really high. Its hard to motivate to go further when you have high quality action right in your backyard.

I think we just spent so many years chasing the water around that we forgot just how good it is here. It's been a while since I've hit some of these gems and it's hard to wipe the smile off.

I love to dance, but who needs the music- It throws me off.

5+ weeks of over 1000cfs in the backyard ditch = perfect year to go nowhere and still have a TON of fun.
