Here one for you Cutch... Broach or Pin?

As long as we are clarifying things today...

What is the difference between a broach and a pin?

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body. But rather...To skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming... WOW !!!! What a ride!!!!!!"

That one is tougher...I call them both pins. But if I were to clarify I would say that a Pin is where you get your boat stuck in the river. It could be on any object, up right, up side down, etc...

A broach would be a type of pin where your boat pins sideways to the current, against the up stream side of a rock.

I would check out William Nealy's Kayak book for a definition on that one. I don't know...

I concur with Cutch. A broach implies a boat that is pinned in the middle on the upstream side of, e.g., a rock, like a wrapped raft or canoe. A pin is a boat that is just plain stuck, e.g, with its nose forced into a crack.
