The Gunnison Valley Paddle Club had its first informal meeting of the year. It seems that many of the officers have left the valley for various reasons and and the club was sitting in limbo without any visible leadership. (Bob Jones, if we are stepping on any toes please let me know) We were un able to inform Bob (VP) of the meeting because of short notice and his being out of town.
With two days notice we had 12 people show up. I think that is pretty good and this intrest is reason enough to try to continue a club presence.
We discussed some issues important to us such as:
Maintenance and enhancement of Gunnison's WW park. Thank you Paul Morgan for your insite to this on-going project. We decided to appoint Paul as the paddle club's Liaison to any Public works entity. If we have concerns we tell Paul and if Paul knows of anything comming up or input is needed he will tell us.
In channel un-natural obstructions. There are a few areas in the Gunnison Valley where land owners have drastically impeded the ability to float passed their property. What can we do about it? We do not know.
Aside from pissing off private land owners and getting arrested for tresspass we do not know what action if any we should take. If anyone wants more information or knows of ways to help please let me know.
Highly used put/ins and take/outs. Can we organize parking and protocol? Can we remove some haszzards?
We will show a presence of some kind at the No Big Names movie showing at WSC on May 4. Details should be comming from Matt Parker.
Our next meeting will be on May 9 6pm. Tentatively at The Almont again.
Contact me with any questions or concerns.
