Gunni Gorge-Chukar Trail Shuttle

Planning a family float next week through the Gorge.
What are my options for getting a raft and gear to the river via the Chukar Trail?
Any recommended shuttle/pack services?

There are horse pack services available for the mile long trail. The road is also pretty bad. The outfitter at the takout can probably hook you up. Do a mountainbuzz search for previous posts on this topic.

Call Leroy at Pleasure Park (google Pleasure Park and gunnison river). He can provide the shuttle, and will give you the beta on horses to get your gear to the river.

There are some tight spots in the gorge where you will probably bounce off a couple rocks, so be careful with little kids flying out of your boat.

Stone Flies should be hatching this weekend, so take your rod.

Can you let us know what you find out about the rates, minimum number of pack horses, etc.?

so far it looks like $75 for the car shuttle:
The Pleasure Park

and you also have to book pack horses (seperately) from:
Larry Franks 970-323-0115
I'll post the specs on the pack horse costs once I get hold of Larry.

Never got hold of Lary Franks, and he hasn't returned my calls.
...A guy I played hockey w this morning just did this float, and he said the pack horse fee was $150.00. He opted to carry his 16' raft on a makeshift backpack, and I'm going to do the same, or I may bring a wheel barrel.

Got hold of's $80 per horse load.
One horse can carry 180lbs.

Make sure you dont leave a car at the put in if it looks like rain - I made that mistake last year and had to wait a week for the road to dry up enough to get back in and get my truck
