xavierengle - Upper Box is much better quality. Grape is a mank-fest with very little to take me back, especially at low-medium flow. As far as a Friday afternoon run, just make sure you have enough time to get through the canyon, you are committed to the run. A crew I was with several years back slept on the side of the creek because we were young and cocky and thought we could squeeze the run in...instead I was squeezed into my kayak trying to stay warm. --my two cents

Looks like you've been missing a lot of work lately.

I wouldn't say I've been *missing* it, Bob.

Looks like grape is going to peak around 800 tonight. Probably down to 400sih tomorrow. Seems like that might be a good level?

Just got rejected on my proposal to ditch a multitude of responsibilities and run it tomorrow. Hopefully someone else gets on it. Looks like the weather is warm enough tonight to keep it going tomorrow.

It is a rite of passage that every Buzzard get sucked into the Grape Creek all-day slog-fest.

It is a pretty canyon in parts, but you may want to reconsider if you go to Grape a) under 600 cfs, AND b) while anything else under a 7 hour drive is running. If I was a Canon City local & it was 800-1000, I think I'd give it another shot. Otherwise, I generally think that it really isn't worth the drive + shuttle from the Denver area.

PS this cool shot of Gary boofing that curler drop on

.....looked a helluva lot uglier in person, at not because of any lack of Gary's paddling ability. At most flows it's a marginally runnable, fairly interesting mank-fest full of ass-shots and crimped landing zones for 200 yards, and a bumpy class II death-march for the other 10 miles.

If you simply HAVE to tick it off your list, then go for it. Personally I'd go to Upper Taos Box or even a Piedra top-to-bottom run (~600cfs right now). I've done that run as low as 500 and had fun.
