Grand Teton / Jackson Hole

I am heading up to Jackson Hole and wanted to take the family on a scenic float trip down the snake and do a little fishing. Is there a good day trip that I can run in my boat? Do I need permits?

Not a lot of specifi info here...but

There is a ton of scenic flatwater in grand teton NP and below. The snake is family friendly until the commercial section (aka alpine stretch). Then is it big water class III. No permits for stuff outside the park. I'm not sure about inside the park. I know it braids a lot and has a few log issues at time in the park.
The outfitters run a combo trip that is 10 miles of scenic in the morning and 8 miles of whitewater in the afternoon. obvioulsy they also run each section as a hlaf day trip as well.

It is all very mellow from the park boundery to the alpine canyon, but you need to pay attention to wood, sometimes just root balls sticking out in the middle of the main flow. It is very braided and although the side channels can offer up good fishing, somtimes they just dont go due to shallow water or log jams. I have not floated anything inside the park but you do need permits. the alpine canyon has been droping like a rock and if you can paddle around Taco hole and Kahuna it is class II. the fishing is good in there too./

Took my kids, one and three, on the mellow in the park float. Saw eagles, moose, otter etc. and absolutely no hazards. Put in below the dam at Jenny Lake took out at Moose Jct. maybe? Check in at the visitors center for a quick permit and your off like a herd of turtles. It is about as mellow a float as you can get but the kids really liked it. Just go to the Teton NP website. Have fun

I have floated from the Jackson Lake Dam throught the Oxbow Bend. It is very scenic with both the Grand Teton and Mt. Moran looming high behind you. You'll see a bunch of wildlife including "swamp donkeys." This section is completely flat with gentle currant.

Have Fun
